Any E. Europeans with good stories to share?

There are various hitchhiking clubs in Russia, Lithuania and other E. European countries and we have members from several of them here on digihitch, but we don't have many of their stories.
Why is this? We know they're out there!

We'd love to hear some tales of hitchhiking in Eastern Europe, Russia, the Balkan countries and so on. If any of you digihitchers have some stories to share or if you feel like translating some of the stories already available in other languages, let us know!

Hi there.
I am from Bulgaria and my english is not realy good.
I have traveled in my country a lot.
There some stories i can tell you but for now i will begin with just one from this summer. I and my friend startet hitch hicking from a place named Irakli. It is on the coast of the black see and it is one of the verry little ubpopulated costal regions in Bulgaria. In 5 days we traveled all the way down to Ahtopol. On the way we were picked by an old English Gentalman who has been leaveingin Bulgaria from couple of years. Unfortunately he was not speacking much bulgarian... actualy he was not speacking much at all but he was a nice polite old man. He took us gust to Elenite ... Unfortunately we needed much time to understand where actualy he was going.He had really strong accent and some difficulties with the pronounsiation. (as me with spelling : D) Than we were picked by a truck driver who was carring loads of beer. We were realy jealous..... : ) We spended 15 days with just 75 leva witch is approximately 30 pound.
We arrived at Burgas. It is big city and we both were for first time there : ) fortunately we quckly manged to cross the hole city and to find the exit of it going south. Then we were picked by a verry weard man. He was traveling with his kids. 2boys the one was verry small probably 5 years old and the other a bit older ... lets say 13 or something like this.
They were going to a place named Varvara which is just 11 kilometers befor Ahtopol. The man was speacking on his phone for the most of the time while we were travelling abd he wanted from us and his kids to stay quite while he was talking. His talks were connected with emploiment of some people and a really great amounts of money. He was driving nive jeep. I have no idea what model it was, but it was new and nice. Fortunately he was willing and offeered to take us to the place where we were going and we just accepted without much hesitation. We were realy greatfull and thanked like hundred of timesbut this is something we allways do to show our appriciations for picking us up.
Wen we reached ahtopol we stayedthere for couple of day. My couison and his grilfriendwere there and we stayed with them. Then we went back o Sofia where we originaly are from. After 2 days we went to Bansko and stay there for a day. We were picked by a manwho was going to the same place. Great luck !! There was Jazz festival at that time ... Thaat's thereason why we were going. After 2 days we decidet to go to the sea again and traveled all tha way to the sea in one day. We woke up one morning (in the park we had no mone for hotel) and just decidet to go . We visited a near village called Dobrinishte just for having a lunch and than we take the way to the see. So this day we traveld Bansko - Dobrinishet Dobrinishte bansko Bansko razlog Razlog - qkoruda Qkoruda chernamesta Cherna mesta Velingrad Velingrad- pazardjik Pazardjick - he mottorway witch leads to the sea (we nearly got arrested (it is banned for ppedestrians to walk on the mottorway) then motttorway plovdiv Plovdiv - Sliven Sliven starazagora stara zagora Burgaas Burgas Suozopol.All the placess mentions are where we were picked by a new car .... : ) 12 hours traveling and .. over 600 Km the people we werepicked were all interesting and nic. They told us about theier stories and life experinece traveling around and ...everithing yu can imagine : ) I may add some more detailsabout the travel in some days but no i am really tired and i will go to bed .. I think to travel around in the UK next week. Can you please give me some advices or moer imformation how is it going here . Are there alot of people willing to pick you upp and etc : )

im active hitchhiker in turkey and i have some great stories. i made nearly 3000km in 22 days by hitchhike. there wasnt time limit i just tired up by walking and sleeping at the tent but it was great experience for me. alot things happen on the way and planning a new route for this summer. if u guys wanna join me in turkey ur wellcome all time. also lookin for someone to hitchhike in turkey

I am Russian, I am not a member of any clubs but I go to gatherings and know most of the active people there.
I was travelling abroad more then inside my country, but still there are some cool things that happenned to me there.

Onse I got a ride from a wedding limo returning from service. It was full of empty champagne glasses and rubbish, and the driver was trying to convince me I have to get married asap. I hitched this ride on Moscow beltway (MKAD), I actually didn´t stick my thumb for the limo, just waved him hello, because I thought it wouldn´t stop. It did. Funne anough the next ride was from a motorbike!

Another story from MKAD - a ride from a guy who was following somebody. He was on the radiop like "hey, do you see the object? the object turns, i am following him, don´t get too close...". The guy was driving like 200 km per hour.

Vologda region, a car with transit plates stops. Huge bold guy wearing leather jacket.
- The front seat is busy, seat behind. Oh, and move the Kalashnikov first! (it was on a backseat).

I had Chechnian war veterans, USSR soccer team player, consulate workers, businessmen, drunk people and even women (it used to be pretty uncommon) giving me rides.
