Trust your gut.

Although I suspect the cops already knew this guy and they wouldn't do anything to or with him unless you had some proof beyond your own word, I think you avoided being drugged by his food, robbed and probably raped or worse. You need to listen to yourself and obey your feelings. Same as in hitchin' there's no one there to do anything except you, yet you knew all the time that something was up. If you had acted on your own hunch and feelings immediately, you would only have been minus a shower. Trust every one whom you know personally and suspect the rest. Cynical? Maybe so, but alive and intact beats trusting and robbed or worse every time. Glad you live to do better another day. Peace.

I hitched short distances when I was younger, then lived the normal life for the better part of 20 years and never stuck my thumb out in that time.
I could have been considered handsome in my younger days and there were a few incidences similar to yours that I experienced. yours is more intense than anything that happened to me.
Thank God we made it out.

Damn, that is hard stuff man.
But perhaps you can still tip off the authorities with an anonymous tip or something like that?
If they had been aware of this guy, it might be enough to re-investigate or something. If they were not, it might put them onto him.
Surely it can't hurt to still report the guy?

Personally I dont know what I would have done in that situation. Nobody can say that for certain untill it happens, and then you just act, for better or for worse.
If I had figured out what was happening I'd probably be boiling with rage, or scared out of my mind, or both. At any rate the end-result probably wouldnt be pretty.
The thought that such people exist and the possibility that they might harm a child makes me so incredibly mad. It's cases like those that make me wish we had a death penalty in Holland, because that kind of person doesnt deserve to live.
They thrive on the suffering of others, and nothing good comes of their life.
