Would wearing my kilt help?

Postby easyjeck » February 19th, 2012, 11:28 am

I'm thinking about travelling in western and perhaps eastern/central Europe this summer. I'm new to forum but not new to hitching, just never done so in a foreign country before, hence I'm RTFF.

I'm Scottish and any backpacking I did before, I took my kilt with me. Do you think more people would stop for a bloke wearing a tartan skirt because they're inquisitive about it, or will I leave it at home?

I can't say whether or not it'll have any impact, as I've never worn a kilt hitch-hiking..
In some countries they would probably be more inclined to pick you, however it could act a deterrant as well, I'm not sure if it is widespread knowledge that kilts are sometimes worn without underwear...

Ha! I think that's superb. I say yes, do it. Not because it'll help or hurt your luck, but because I think the digihitch community will benefit from an article entitled "Kilt Hitching: The Pros and Cons of Easy Access".

No I'm kidding, sorry to offend. hell I'm a Graham and wear kilts at important events, but I probably wouldn't hitch in one here (Latin America). However, since Europe, especially them northern parts, are more progressive and aware, open and tolerant, I think a kilt should be just fine. With the cold snap you'll probably get picked up even faster.

But man, write an article when you're done so we can read it!

Cool, yeah I think it could help to break the ice in those few seconds when the driver is deciding whether to pick you up or not. Just be sure to accompany it with a smile :¬)

Since Football is a big thing in many places, people might think you're just a hardcore football fan which COULD work in your favour :P

I say do it. Worst comes to worst, have pants to change into if it doesn't seem to be working. And perhaps expect even weirder rides? Haha, good luck!

Are you kidding me? Ofcourse! Do it! If nothing else, do it for the hilarity factor haha. People might give you weird looks but others will think it's completely awesome, as would I :)
