Travel Photographer of the Year (2011)

Postby Succat » December 10th, 2011, 6:28 pm

This year’s international "Travel Photographer of the Year" gong has been awarded to Louis Montrose from California for his images of a painted village in Burkino Faso and the day of the dead festival in Mexico.

"Travel" photography

Postby Succat » December 10th, 2011, 9:37 pm

Hey there [b:4724db4689]kabuki_mono[/b:4724db4689] . . .

You're a traveller and keen photographer — do you have any travel related shots posted on-line that you could link to here?

It might be fun to share some of our own work (links [u:4724db4689]only[/u:4724db4689] please) and I'm happy to start this off with something I posted last week:

You're a dark horse, my friend . . .

I took the opportunity to also have a quick look at your photo albums and have bookmarked them for a more leisurely visit later on.

Is this your bike you're travelling around on?

Nice work!

:)

Travel Photos

Great photos.

Someone offered to buy me a camera a few years ago, but I declined. My camera is a pen and paper.

Kodak BW400CN

(the train jumper) ... very clean and crisp shot

Thank you!

This image was shot on film using Kodak BW400CN which I over exposed by 1-stop.

The digital file was obtained by scanning the photo negative to disc at time of processing. While film can be digitally scanned at any time, this will provide the "cleanest" result. Over exposing the film will create a more dense negative, highly suitable for scanning, and results in a more "crisp" image.

Photos ~ Wordpress Blogging Platform

I like what you've done so far: it's tidy, well laid out and easy to navigate.

Wordpress is a sophisticated platform, constantly under development, and, if you're serious about using it for your photography, I think it's well worth spending time learning how to drive it.

Here's a few pointers:

• Create a new, private "Test" Blog. Use this to play around and experiment with different themes, layouts and settings before applying them to your "Public" Blog.

• There's an impressive variety of themes to choose from, some of which are better suited for photography or photoblogging. I suggest using the "features filter" to narrow down the field.

• Learn how to run your Dashboard (from what I see, you've got a pretty good handle on this already).

• Learn how to manage your media library and your images and your galleries or set up a slide show. With a space upgrade, you can also embed videos. (This unofficial Image FAQ might also be useful)

• Don't hesitate to use their Forums if you can't work something out and have questions (or, if you get [i:3d1ef6a082]r-eally[/i:3d1ef6a082] stuck, send me a PM).

Have fun!

:)
