A dog on the rails

Postby Kodiakkid » November 13th, 2011, 7:37 pm

Is it a major pain to have a dog while riding the rails? I know this question is hard too answer becuase every dog is different. Just woundering what a good size of dog for the rails would be? Are they stressed always from the noise?

Burlington Dog K-9 has ridden with Stretch for about 16 years. He's getting pretty old now, and it's hard for him to get on and off trains. Stretch raised him from a puppy on freight trains and Burl loves riding. He used to be able to jump into boxcars from the ground when he was young, but now he can't even jump down from boxcars. Stretch has to lift him on and off railcars now.

The biggest problem is that when they arrive somewhere, Stretch cannot ride public transportation because he has Burl with him. This is a big problem, amd means that Stretch has to hoof it from one rail yard to another even in big cities like Chicago or Minneapolis.
