Dress warm in winters, and have some water during the hot season.
people are generally nice but better be prepared like everywhere else.
definitely visit the capital city, the beach and Traku castle.
for languages... english is good but mostlly just among younger people. you might try russian with older ones if ya know any.

I've only been in Lithuania for three days, but my impression was positive. The roads are good for Eastern European standards and the people I met were friendly and spoke some English. You can hitchhike directly from the bus stops on the highway, there are also a lot of bus stops on the smaller roads which are good spots.
