"If being a racist saves me from being mugged – right I’m a racist."

that's your prerogative, but paranoia makes the world crappier. Too bad for everyone.

At least you had the smarts to give up everything you had and be as kind to them as possible. That was good....hoped you learned your lesson as far as being dropped off in probably one of the top 8 cities in the US for crime and gang violence. Although it is hard to say at what time or place you will get "hit", at least you knew how to handle things.

good story. iinteresting tidbits. unfortunately, most of this post is about the racist comments made on here.

withoutatrace, that was some seriously ignorant stuff you said there. If you want to confront and udnerstand your racism, Im down for talking.

the idaho town thing is a shitty analogy. there's one town in Idaho thats bad, are all towns in Idaho bad? no.

one black man mugs you, are they all bad? no.

the crimes committed by most black people in this country are done because most black people in this country are poor -- a minority of whom are criminals. most black people are poor not because of their own self doing but because of sociological circumstances tracing back half a millenium, literally.

if white people had been put in the same boat (pun intended) as black people had, white people would be going through the same struggle.

its been 40 years since segregation ended in the south. thats not even romtely enough time for the black community to recover from that type of trauma.

canada, sweden, and england don't have America's crime problems not because they dont have black people (which they actually do) but because they do not have america's poverty. this is simple.

Im not making excuses for people who mug others ), but I am simply explaining a situation that you're obviously ignorant about. and dont you dare tell me that I'm young and that I'll grow up and see the world for what it is. its irrelevant. its not an arguement against what I'm actually saying but is sinmply a personal attack, a fallacy of logic. whether or nto this mugging was racially motivated is hard to say. maybe the muggers mug just about anyone who doesnt live on their block, or anyone who they might be able to take advantage of, regardless of color.

I want to believe that you can come to terms with your racism, but you're going to have to try.

first of all im not racist what so ever.

i have no problems with black people. people use slang in different ways to describe stuff all the time. in this case i may have worded it wrong.

well im just making it clear that there is no racism issue involved here. i understand you concepts in your comment. but maybe you should not assume before you know for sure.

i am a lover of all people and places. but when it comes to people doing things like the people in my story...... thats just all part of the joy of hitchhiking. i just consider this site to be a great way to share fun stories and close encounters. i take no offense to your comment. and i do appreciate your feed back. i realize maybe i should word things differently for all of you out there who use your imaginations. after all reading is all in the imagination. my story is yours to think of how ever you want

but please do not presieve my stories to be racist. thank you

You did the right thing brother!

If the first thing is racism that people think of when reading this article, it's because they must have it on their minds, or the subject never would have come up!

If you want to keep your gear & or money, then stay away from the "HOOD"!!!

At the same time, if you want to keep your gear & or money,...don't hide/stash it "ANYWHERE"!!!
