Table-scoring

Postby iowan_hitcher » October 28th, 2005, 5:14 pm

i had my first actual table scoring experience on a trip to West Virginia, and then back to Iowa.
in des moines, iowa, i was waiting for a long while on an on-ramp, and i saw a Godfather's pretty close. i had money, so i did buy a pizza and ate it, but after i was done, noticed some people who had left had some more food on their plates, so i got some of that. but, since i bought food there, i think it doesnt really count.

when i got in huntington, west virginia though, i went to a cafe with friends, and while they were talking amongst themselves for a while, i went to a place where the employess take leftover food, like right by the "window" for the kitchen, and i would eat off of the tray. one of the trays i found had a pretty good amount of food left on it, so i took the tray to a table, sat down, and ate it all! :D

urniating

Postby dusk » November 2nd, 2005, 8:51 pm

Hi. I am new at this and although I haven't hitchhiked yet, I walk and hike for miles and find that the two biggest issues are thirst and urination. I was thinking of buying a funnel like device they sell in tent and trails that allows females to urinate standing. I imagine when I do hit the road it will come in handy. What do you do?

i suppose if i ever have to pee, i'll just find a good place where i think i won't be seen too much, wooded areas kick ass, for instance.
um, with regard to thirst, right now, i have an abnormally huge water bottle that i fill with cold water and then take it with me. i suppose if i got thirsty with a lack of water, i'd look for a store or something, but if you're far from a store or something, i've heard of these things called "survival straws" that are given to people in third world countries. apparently they only run about $12. you can stick the straw in any water source, and get good water. it has a filter, and i think that may be why it works. it lasts pretty long, you'd have to use it everyday for one year until you had to get a new one.

p.s., if you wanna post a new topic(like urinating), just click on new topic, instead of post reply :D

Table scoring is a great way to get both food, and money.

I like to table score at corner bistros where people have tables outside, or I just walk into some place and start eating before the people have cleared the table off... like in Waffle House or something... most of the time you get kicked out but sometimes people give you money or buy you food.

Table scoring seems to me to be a modern version of and somewhat related to that old scavenging survival technique that humans used to use after a beast of prey would kill an animal and leave it and then some guy would go up and grab a hunk of meat and take off with it and eat it...I know some people who eat a good deal of food by scavenging...they pick up roadkill deer and other animals and use them for food and hides...some things never change, only the technology...

One time I "borrowed" a white apron and a bus bin, picked up all the plates that had food left on them in a restaurant. I did it outside and booted it as soon as I got a decent amount.

Another time I collected all the trays people left on the tables in a mall food court, stacked the trays, pocketed the food. Good stuff.

I used to prey on leftover fried fish and those baskets of free bread at YPF stations in Argentina
