storing stuff

From what I can tell, anyplace that's secluded, out of reach, and the chance of anyone stumbling upon it is highly unlikely.. like on the outskirts of the city in some field, or on a hill, or cover it with leaves and brush.

carry a big black trash bag and place your gear inside. Now place your garbage where someone would have to go out of their way to open and invesigate it. Scan the area for home bums.
Find a porta-john and put your own lock on it.

Storing your stuff

I don't know if you are talking about a big city because I don't like to explore big cities. But if you are talking about a smaller places, then I like to put my stuff where I am going to camp for the night.(preferably in a wooded area) But if you do this make sure to remember where you put your stuff. I also like rooftops. I have stored my pack in bushes too.
I have an alice pack so it blends in.

drop in centers will often let you store your gear but if your not there before they close your screwed untill the next morning. Best part is you can google where they are and make a plan.

up in a tree or on a rooftop is good, if your not comfterble with that you can always "lose" it at a public library or somthing like that and then come back and retrive it from the lost and found, just make sure to get there befor they close

Just as long as it's a secluded area, redford had some good tips. Be careful, though, I once lost everything I owned because I chose a bad spot to stash stuff.

I used to bury my pack in dead leaves and sticks. This usually works if you can find a greenbelt or something. Once on the beach in Guatemala I buried it with coconut leaves and sand.

Exactly! :D

Or if it's a really big city go from shop to shop, cafe to cafe, until you find someone nice to look after it.

But generally, keep your sh*t light! I personally love having my house with me wherever I go, unless I'm going partying or something.
