Burma/Thailand March 2010

Im a 23 year old woman living and working in Taiwan right now but im itching to travel. 6 months in a long time to stay still!! Im looking to start in Thailand, head north but spend most of the time up to Burma by land of course. Im looking for a beautiful, fun and creative person to share this adventure, the whole trip or part of it, whatever, leave a message if ur planing to be in this area then!! Aiming at March 5-till whenever, im open for dates.

Burma might be impossible to get in to but that also depends which country one is from. The country is more or less a police state, making overland travel complicated and rough. From what i head its moslty the eastern part of the country that is doable. Where as the west side should be closed off to travelers, etc. I met a guy in Saigon that had traveled Burma, and he said it was impossible to get from east to west overland. Not to mention the corrupt cops and officials.

Hm, I know but I did a visa run from thailand back in July to Burma and I got in no problem at all. actually only cost me about 50 baht from chaing rai to mai sae (the border)

As far as I know the border is open!! And Ive got some ideas to avoid government run hostels, im hoping to get the ones locally run for sure.

50 bath, sounds almost too cheap, sure they didnt rip you off at the border? :p
Yeah i know, visa-run is possible and a few of my friends did this. But there is a major difference from doing a visa-run and wanting to travel into the country. If you know what you are doing and wanna see the country I would say: Go for it!
Just keep safe .
If you are looking for a more romantic view of SE. Asia, i would say Laos is just as qualified and is alot more safe!

Thanks for the advice!!(Im actually torn between Laos and Burma!!) I remeber when i was doing my visa run an American couple was ahead of me wanting to travel the country. Only I think if you go overland you can only go to some areas and be there for 15 days.

Ive been and lived in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand,only 2 left in that area are Bruma and Laos!

How did you like living in Cambodia, and which city did you live in?
As for Laos, you must note that almost all stores and shops close between 21 and 22.00. I never really found the reason for this. Even in the Capital, Vientiane, it was only the bars that were open after 22.00. At times it was nice and peaceful, but at other times arriving late to a city, or wanting something to eat sucked if everything was closed.
As for hitching i found Laos quite easy. Waited no more then 10 - 20 min, despite the few cars there are in this country. Most people drive pick-ups so be prepared for alot of wind and sun!
