MSN Hitchhicking Articles Lame Failure to Mention DigiHitch

Postby JustAnotherRichGuy » June 8th, 2004, 8:41 pm

At http://autos.msn.com/volvo/article.aspx ... id=4022289 Robin Dalmas fails to realize the popularity of Hitchhiking or even search the Internet to find DigiHitch.

I felt its best left up to Digihitch to contact her about this oversight.

Article replies on digihitch and indymedia

Postby Salman » June 9th, 2004, 5:14 pm

This article was originally published on MSN back in April. We discussed it here on digihitch in this thread:

http://www.digihitch.com/ftopict-1087-robin.html

It has also been discussed on Portland Indymedia here:

http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2004/04/284836.shtml

Supposedly you can reach the writer, Robin Dalmas, at this address:
Robin.Dalmas@MSNBC.com

Write him/her to rail against the misinformation and fear.

The problem with Dalmas' article is, unfortunately, not an isolated incident of an epidemic that has all but wiped out main stream news in this country. Notice Dalmas fails to cite any information, she quotes a few baby-boomers (notice occupations...boomers turned yuppy) but the article lacks any concrete information to back up the claim that hitch hiking is, in fact, dead. The truth is that it is hard to guage how many people are on the road, sailing with their thumbs to the next town/state/camp. Popular opinion is mythical in this country, we read polls that claim to have a finger on the pulse of what we think as a people...these polls are largely affected by who is asking what questions and the people they are asking. Essentially, we can gain little insight into what is actually going on from "major" "news" outlets...which are owned by much larger corporations, such as General Electric, Westinghouse and other special interst groups. The journalist of old, the one that would track down the truth...mercilessly pursue leads and impecibly check facts and information is gone...in their place you'll find cubicles kept warm by PR people, intent on telling us what our American Dream is...they are not interested in uncovering an interesting piece of information that the public would find useful...just the paycheck so they can chase that dream they are trying so hard to sell us. Don't believe what you read...most of it is BS.
