Impeach Dick Cheney - Roadbard Irv says do it

Postby Salman » December 19th, 2007, 6:14 pm

A good friend of mine and digihitch sent this message out to his mailing list today. Irv Thomas is a lifetime hitchhiker and the author of Derelict Days... Sixty Years on the Roadside Path to Enlightenment.
He sends along some info on how you can help get the attention of Congress and the media to hold Impeachment Hearings... just add your voice...
[quote:13aaa1e0ba="Irv"]To all my stalwart Progressive friends...

This announcement just came in. Another strong push toward Impeachment is now underway . . . as you'll see below.

Congressman Wexler is *on the House Judiciary Committee.* Along with two colleagues, he sent an OpEd piece on impeachment to a number of newspapers last week, including NYTimes and Washington Post, but NOT ONE OF THEM would print it (see more detail on that below). So he set up a web site (WexlerWantsHearings.com), asked for 50,000 supportive signatures and got them in ONE DAY — Monday; today the count is up to 100,000.

Now he's asking for 150,000 more. So come on in on it, and let it SNOWBALL!

Subject: Rep. Wexler's Quarter Million Person Challenge / Blog Radio Announcement

Dear Irv,

We have already reached 100,000 supporters. Thank You.

Now We Need Each of You To Send an Email to Ten More People to Get 250,000 Signed Up at WexlerWantsHearings.com by the End of the Year.

I can guarantee that your 100,000 voices calling for impeachment hearings will now be heard in Congress. Together, through our new Quarter Million Person Challenge, let's now set a new goal of 250,000 Americans signing up to demand action.

It has been just 5 days since I called for impeachment hearings for Vice-President Dick Cheney and already over 100,000 people - including you - have answered that call by adding your name as an impeachment supporter at www.WexlerWantsHearings.com . This is a truly remarkable response that demonstrates the power that average, everyday Americans can have when we come together to pursue justice and accountability.

Never mind that the national media ignored my call and rejected an op-ed that I wrote along with my Judiciary Colleagues Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI). The Netroots and citizen activists like yourself are spreading our message and demanding action.

[b:13aaa1e0ba]Quarter Million Person Challenge[/b:13aaa1e0ba]

Our movement continues to grow by the hour and the day. But, with the media blackout, I need your help to grow our effort. With 100,000 supporters already signed-up, if each of you e-mail ten of your friends (a "Chain-ey letter") about www.WexlerWantsHearings.com and the need for Cheney impeachment hearings we will reach over a million Americans and perhaps we can reach a new goal of 250,000 signers by the end of the year!!

[b:13aaa1e0ba]Join Me Thursday Night on Blog Radio to Discuss Our Next Steps[/b:13aaa1e0ba]

On this Thursday at 9:00 p.m. (EST) and 6:00 (PST), please join me as I appear on live on the Internet to discuss my efforts to convince Congress to hold impeachment hearing.

Congressman Wexler Live on Blog Radio:

WHEN: Thursday, December 18, 9:00 pm (EST)/6:00 pm (PST)

WHERE: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/fpc (a link will be posted at www.wexlerwantshearings.com and www.wexlerforcongress.com )

WHO: Rep. Wexler will appear live on Florida Progressive Radio with host Kenneth Quinnell of the Florida Netroots Caucus, Bob Fertick of Democrats.com, as well as Dave Lindorf, author of "The Case for Impeachment," and David Swanson with AfterDowningStreet.org.

[b:13aaa1e0ba]More on the Media Blackout[/b:13aaa1e0ba]

The New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, USA Today, and Boston Globe have all rejected our op ed (though the Miami Herald just put an edited version in its "Letters to the Editor" section). We have heard from the editors of some of these publications and they are telling us that they are getting overwhelmed with phone calls and letters of complaint. (Well done everybody!)

In short - we need to keep the pressure on if this news will spread far beyond the Netroots community.

With warm regards,

Congressman Robert Wexler

impeach dick cheney

Postby Raven_1019 » December 19th, 2007, 8:55 pm

i think that dick cheney should be thrown out of office and never allowed to have any part in the USA offices be it mayor, congress, or whatever. he has done enough harm to the USA and should no longer be allowed to have any influence on this country or the people ever again.

Dick Cheney Before He Dicks You!

I agree, Raven.

The so-called "administration" that we have inside the Beltway right now is the true personification of evil.

I call it the mis-administration.

With that being said, and as much as I dislike Dick Cheney, et al I personally wouldnt call for their impeachment at this time.

Reasons: Its to close to the end of their term. It may throw focus off of the current elections. And it will give them more time to hang themselves.

Me, I'm voting all incumbents out of office, specifically, our US Senator who is up for reelection and I'm for Kucinich in the primary, after primaries we'll see.

Impeaching an elected official is not removing him/her from office. Impeachment only means that they must appear in front of Congress or whatevr governing body to answer questions. By the time you set up an impeachment hearing they will be out of office anyway. I believe in term limits, plus I also believe that we should draft our political leaders into political office.

I think Cheney is as much of a legitimate war criminal as anyone, but impeachment hearings would be hugely divisive and tremendously costly. 59,000,000 morons voted for him. Maybe they ought to be impeached for being stupid.

I think that he should be impeached along with the rest of the administration and most of Congress. But should it happen now? I say no, because it is too close to the end of the administration's term and it would take away from the elections. Ron Paul FTW! I hope he makes it because then we might actually get our country back. For more information, Google the bills and Acts in my signature. You will be surprised by what you find. All of them are basically being used to cover up the Constitution and make it null and void.

actually 62,040,610 morons voted for him in 2004. That's a staggering amount of stupidity!

yeah what flatcar said about term limits.

i believe in one term @ 4 years for president.

one term for senators and representatives, both on the federal and state level. and their terms reduced from 6 years to 4 years.

have voter receipts for verification.

and do away with the electoral college altogether.
