FMT??? Do i really need to get one?

Postby eric_lco » October 7th, 2007, 1:44 pm

I was reading in a travel book that if you are traveling past the border region (16 miles from the USA) you will need this thing called a FMT. Do i really need to get one? I have a US Passport. Could that be enough? I am planning on heading from the US to Panama. Maybe farther, but playing it by ear... So do I really need this, and what kind of paperwork will I need for this trip so I don't land myself in some sort of legal troubles??

-Thanks

You need to get a tourist visa to leave the border zone in Mexico. The Federales and the military will have passport and visa checks at almost every state border in mexico. It only costs 21 dollars I think. Unless you have to bribe the official giving it to you, then that's only about ten to twenty dollars more.. But that's a whole other story.. hehe ;)

You get it at the border crossing at Tijuana on the Mexican side. You can stop by your travel agent and they will direct you to the right form for a fee.
