A gypsy idea

Postby ryanvaene » November 16th, 2006, 3:35 pm

do you like
to ride your bike?
feel like a gypsy?
all ways free?

so this morning i was at work, although due to my life being, for the most part, awesome and enjoyable, i wasn't stressed about being at work.
i was however preoccupied with the fact that most people at my age (almost twenty one) give up on there dreams around this time. theres a whole fu(k!ng society telling me that what i want is impossible, that i have no options except to buy into their pathetic games. but i know thats not true, and i am reminded by the fact that SO MANY people are talking the same things.
none of us want to 'grow up' and be a responsible full-time buried in debt keeping up the image life where everything is a consolation prize because there is no life. not one of us aspires to that crap, but we are surrounded by the so-called 'facts of life.'
we need to support those who have learned the truths we have learned, we need to encourage one another to stay strong and not deny ourselves. we need to affirm life as often as possible.
the gypsy idea that came to be this morning was of bicycle gypsies! i've heard mention of this once on another thread; its a very viable and excellent idea. i imagine 2-6 people, each on a bicycle. 1-3 bike trailers, to carry staples (rice, oatmeal, potatos, pasta, cooking pots, tarps, maybe one larger tent, candles, lanterns, and camping gear. also trade items!) that way the trailers could be switched off from person to person. whenever $$$ became nessecary or desireable, we could get temporary jobs and work a few days to replenish the coffers. dumpster diving would also help alot, maybe finding slightly old vegtables or fruits!

im picturing a time of total gypsy life and adventure. we could talk to kids at shows and encourage them, visit organic farms and help people.
now that winter is (supposed) to be here, i was kinda expecting to stay put for a good few months. but this is really got me thinkin' and i want to sound it across the forum to see what replies i can get. if your really dig the idea and could see yourself doing it, plz try to write a msg, as well as posting on the boards. i love riding my bike, i deffinitly want this to happen, if not very very soon then in the spring most surely.
what do you think? would you want to be a bicycle gypsy? what would you think if you say four or five people with gear and colorful banner roll into town and start playing drums? i think it would be amazing-

What's wrong with dumpster diving? Plenty of good stuff in em' not just "trash."

I think it's a pretty cool idea - unrealistic maybe, but who's to say.

I'd travel with ya.

I have thought about the bike thing, even motorcycles maybe, would be nice to not depend on cars for rides for a bit, to go and stop when you wanted, Id be down for riding a bicycle cross country, quite a few peeps have done it.

Nothing wrong with dumpstering. I am not big on it, dont have the charm for it, but some people do, look out fer bleach and rat poison

I've thought about the motorcycle thing - though I can see why some would prefer bikes.
Perhaps it's just the 'Easy Rider' and 'Renegade' influence. (that [i:34e385a778]was[/i:34e385a778] a good show damnit)

all about wandering

Postby ryanvaene » November 21st, 2006, 2:48 pm

the most wonderful thing about a bicycle is that although it can go quite fast, it doesn't go so fast that you miss whats around you. ive realized that the world is an amazingly complex and huge and beautiful place, and adventures and great views and cool places and totally cool coincidences are around almost every corner.
today i explored the riverbanks and small islands that pass under a large bridge which i drive over daily for a long time. today i spent several hours there, jumping rocks and just looking and admiring and being like an animal. the world is full of whatever we want to find, i think. those of us who are free to do as we please (and only because we've realized it) really are the ones who hold the world in our hands. i've traveled and seen and known and experiences way more than alot of middle-class managers and so called 'entrepeneurs.' because life is really about NOW, not the future. im so glad and lucky and even blessed that i've had the realizations ive had, and at a fairly young age, because i can now fill the remainder of my life with all that i can imagine.
and a gypsy trip across the country on bicycles is gonna come soon, thats for sure.
edit: yea motorcycle struck me as really awesome idea too, except that it'd be considerably more expensive. if/when i get a windfall of surprise cash i'll get a motorcycle. damn. i love adventures so much.

tottally possible

Postby ryanvaene » February 22nd, 2007, 12:54 pm

i found a nice bicycle. really nice riding to work and around town. easily as much fun as a car. if there wasn't four feet of snow on the shoulder i'd be gone, i think. if anyone has given this idea some thought and wants to chat, msg me cause i intend to go on a bicycle gypsy wandering this spring or summer. or winter if cabin fever get's any worse.
and listen to this: i had an idea to go with bicycle gypsys. a way we could help people/ raise $$$ would be to convert people's backyards into vegtable gardens! YEAH! a lot of people who have an acre or three acres would let us camp in their property, hook us up, and be grateful cause we will plant climate appropriate veggies/fruits in their yards! could borrow their tools or carry basic hoe/shovel/spade in one of the bike trailers, and that will be awesome. want to help make this come true? i could be a solo bike gypsy and maybe i'll start off like that but i would love to have a small tribe, and it could be an amophous tribe with people joining or leaveing as we pass thru the states. lots of possibilities
thanks for reading
let me know if you want to collaborate

I've never been much of a cyclist. I am ready to get back on the road and the idea of being part of something like this. So let me know if this is still happening. I'm in South Carolina and will be free the end of july.
