Oh the people you meet when hitching in Ireland! The Irish have a reputation for being a bit crazy but youd be amazed at some of the people you encounter on the roads. Lots of tourists give lifts which is good - maybe the hitching virus is more contagious in those parts!

haha we crazy alright but people can be snobby at giving lifts, me and my friends always hitch after house partys in countryside or just when in country side and no bus,how is it when getting in and out of ireland tho/is it easy to get a lift with car/truck at ports?is it free like from dover-calais?

Hitchhiking in Ireland

I did some hitchhiking in Ireland in 1980 and 1981. I saw a lot of people hitchhiking in Ireland when I was there. I thought Ireland was a great place to hitchhike. Very friendly people.

The Burren is definitely rough country to get stuck in: all rocks and no trees. Very unique place. Counties Kerry and Cork have a lot of mountains. I once got a ride just south of the Northern Irish border near Kingscourt, County Cavan. An IRA man hijacked a car close to there just a week before--that was back in 1980. I think the IRA have pretty much disbanded.
