I usually wear blue-jeans, collered shirt, and baseball hat but I dont think it matters a whole lot (as long as you dont look like a crazy maniac), being somewhat clean does help tho!!

whatever, if your gonna get a ride, then you will. If not, you probably wont, so it seems...

Seeing as it seems to be getting rainy around my parts(British Columbia), i'm thinking about bringing my oilskin coat with me... I also have a bit of a beard coming in(You think i should shave it?), and am either going to be wearing an irish/flat cap, or some other kind of oilskin cap... I figured maybe i was going to look a little weird/fucked.

But dressing 'normal,' isnt my thing. 90% of my pants are camo, and most of my shirts are band shirts :P

Camo pants always help. I've got lifts from them before. Band T shirts will get you lfits from people that wear band t shirts. You'll come across as more countercultural and less like a crazy person/

Beards don't help, they contribute to the bum/drug addict/maniac paradigm.

Lots of rides are either retired military, recent military, or current military.

I just tried an experiment while hitching thru the central states. Stopped at a thrift shop and bought a couple of cheap t-shirts. Results were
Ohio - Had an Ohio State basketball shirt = no help
Indiana - had a Notre Dame Football shirt = no help
Kansas City, MO - forgot the don't like Kansas State, got yelled at
