sorry, didn't have time to read 5.5 years of comments.

Now what else is upsetting you?

I'm sure it would be easy to dig up a dozen thoughtful responses to your posts that I've made. Am not sure you'd have much luck finding a "ridiculous" response from me. You're welcome to try if it means that much to you.

I'm not gonna try-- it just seemed like a misunderstanding with response, but I understand if you didn't know I was referring to the topic's question. Hell, it is 5.5 years ago like you said.
It was ridiculous with the whole Coke thing though, a bit unnecessary-- that's what I meant by "ridiculous." I know you were maybe even only joking.

Not going to say more than that, you're a great guy and you have offered some real help-- sorry for that outburst.

That sort of happened to me in Ecuador...I was trying to get from Macas to Zamora, on the main road obviously, and was riding in the very backseat and the two people were chatting up a storm up front and totally ignoring me.

I was just staring out the window but it had been raining the night before and I didn't get hardly any sleep.

So I dozed off...

When I awoke several hours later we were in the middle of NOWHERE with nothing but jungle covered mountians all around us; the road we were on was hardcore mud. The driver pulled over and said that he was stopping here.

It turned out he wanted $5 because he was apparently a 'taxi' but to me just looked like a piece of crap chevy idling in the mud. I didn't have $5, so I had to give him 50 cents and my hat, otherwise he looked like he might kill me. My fault for not asking if he was a taxi beforehand, Ecuadorian taxis can be anything.

As for the road, it took me two days to get to Zamora from there...definently the long way, but it was much more beautiful, I'd say, than the main highway. I was kind of pissed about losing my hat, though

hitchhiking

Postby graydawg » October 3rd, 2010, 2:42 pm

I have only hitch hiked a couple times in my 50 year life and never had a bad expierience. While I was driving a 18 wheeler I have picked up a many hitch hiker and never had a problem, even had a decent looking female want to have sex with me, but I declined the offer (don't know what I was thinking) there are decent people in this old cruel world, they are just getting far and few between, good luck in all your travels and life, live it to the fullest, just found and joined your group. I am presently off the road for now, but look forward to getting back moving again

I've never been forced to stay in a car against my will. What I've thought about doing in such a situation is to pretend i'm dizzy and ready to vomit, I'm good at faking it. Other than that, I try not to fall asleep while being in somebody else's car, mostly out of respect for the driver than out of fear. It happened a coule of times to me though. The first one was while i was resting in the back of a pick up truck and being hit by the strong southasian sun. Ι couldn't help but rest my eyes. The second one was when i was picked up by a trucker after a long day and many hours of hiking in the mountains. Both times nothing bad happened, quite the opposite i'd say. The drivers were kind and helpful, they only woke me up when we reached my destination!

I could see it maybe if the driver offered you a diet Coke and you didn't like diet Coke.

Hahahaha

I have no problem sleeping in people's cars. I make sure I feel that I've 'paid' in a decent amount of conversation, and the conversation has run quiet, before I ask if I can take a nap. People often offer me to sleep even if I haven't asked. The best is when you get a trucker and they let you sleep in their bunk, and you wake up a thousand km down the road! If I didn't trust them, I wouldn't sleep. If I needed to sleep, I'd ask to jump out and set up camp.
