Norway has turned into a normal country

Postby Raus » August 13th, 2007, 12:25 pm

I'll admit you're right about hitchhiking being slow, and lots of funny looks. And yes, Norway is expensive. But me, my gf and my dog, lived on 30 euros a day and never paid for a place to stay. So, I wouldn't consider you the king of budget travel.

Hitching is generally okay in Norway

Hitching is generally okay in Norway, you just have to be patient and you can go anywhere. My tactic was to buy as much food as I could carry in Sweden or Finland and then hitch around in Norway for a while. I've been in and out of the country a few times without spending any money at all.

I would like to go back to Norway sometime to give it a go again. I loved it there. We just didn't have enough time to wait for the rides in the slow spots.. Also, I like the idea of buying a pack of food and bringing it in with me. As an experiment I would like to try the same stretch of road, me and Liz and my pup did, on my own.. Just to see how much faster it would be.
I just had to comment on this article after the writer said he spent 100-200 dollars a day. And wanted to make sure other digihitchers didn't take this as the gospel. You can spend as much or as little as you like, just like anywhere else.

norway

Postby dsmith4721 » October 17th, 2007, 11:30 pm

The trip was a bust what can i say. If you are using public transportation, traveling fast, staying in hostels and hotels and eating out you will spend $100-200 a day no question. Hitch and camp and self cater food you will spend little. If you stay with relatives and beg for food youll come away with more money than when you started and put the Norwegian tourist office out of business.

This trip was rushed. It rained all the time and I had a return plane ticket. It was also binge traveling about which I'll write more in another article. I used money to travel not the digihitcher type of quality travel at little cost. I made a mistake after 14 years on the road. I saw alot but with a week more I would have spent 1/3 the money and had a more relaxed time. So ask me how long will it take how much money do I need and Ill tell you to carefully read the digihitch articles on how to travel-meet the people- and spend little money.

Norways still a great country but yes its expensive and everyone thought me a bum at my age. It was rather annoying and not fun as it was years ago. In 1985 I hitched from Copenhagen to Alta- almost to Nordkap spending no money at all. what a great adventure. I haven written much about my earlier Norwegian travels Ive spent about 10 months there over the years. Ill try and write more.
