North Little Rock exit 161 (Galloway)--I think there are three truck stops there. A busy hub.

Downtown Memphis is a free bus over to the dog track in West Memphis, Arkansas. You can get off right by the truck stop and hitch from there.

I have hitchhiked through Memphis a number of times. Virtually every time I went through Memphis, someone would say, "Don't ever get dropped off in downtown Memphis; either get dropped off on the east side or the west side because it is safer."

One time I got dropped off on the west side of Memphis and I had to walk all the way across that big bridge that spans the Mississippi River. I think it is the longest bridge I have ever walked across.
