I might skip Myrtle Beach altogether like you suggest. I'm trying to decide where to go from Williamsburg Virginia on my way to Austin TX. I'm definitely stopping in Huntsville and Montgomery AL. However before those stops I wanted to stop in one other spot. Right now I have my choices down to Johnson City TN, Asheville NC, Myrtle Beach SC, Ft Meyers FL or possibly even Knoxville TN. I'm leaning towards Asheville. It's supposedly a really nice place and it even has a pretty nice hostel supposedly.

KW/hawai'i

beaches in hawai'i! haha. i was down in the keys a couple months ago; primarily just key west, but there's a cool little 'ranch' on big pine key, kinda cool communal vibe (but the no see ums will kill you!)... but that's not on the beach. i was kickin it in a van, but it was all right as far as campin' went. cops [MOD EDIT] with local (drunks) more than homeless.

but yah... i'm gonna try to get back out to hawai'i soon; was staying on big island wwoofing, now i'm just gonna land in honolulu and see what happens when i start looking for stuff. they have tent cities out there that are somewhat legal; might like to experience that for a minute - haha.

I can't agree with you more about Hawaii. Wasn't the sunday afternoon drum circle great; down on Red Road in Puna (Big Island). I was there about the same time as you Lonleywander; and had a great time with every one I met. Peace.

Southern virginia camping

Postby wanderingbob » December 1st, 2011, 11:21 am

[quote:9edc239dcc="jaeger88"]Has anyone had any experience camping out on any beaches in the Myrtle Beach SC area? I'm trying to choose a route from Southern Virginia to Austin TX. I was thinking of making Myrtle Beach one of my stops.[/quote:9edc239dcc]  I'm in Norfolk, and staying in a rooming house, owned by a guy who I got a ride from outside of Toledo. I was nearly frozen when I got in the car, and only took the ride south due to the temps dropping drastically. But the situation is not going to work. There's too many personality problems going on between folks that live in the place, and they all seem to want me to take their' sides, so back on the road I go, oh well. But I was wondering if you knew the best route out of here, heading south, since I'm currently in a pretty bad neighborhood, and am only waiting till it warms up a bit( probably Saturday) before I head furthur south. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanx!!

I once slept on the beach at Cambria, California. I thought it was a great place to sleep.
