Looking for friends along the way

Postby eeyoredurden » October 2nd, 2005, 7:31 pm

greetings travelers,
i'm new to this site, and this lifestyle. basically, i'm quitting my job soon and trying to travel before its' too late. im too trapped in my routine and my job and hate having a car and now can barely afford one, and i want to see what' out there. i've lived in upstate ny for all of my 27 years. i dont know what i'm looking for, dont know if i'll ever find a job that pays enough to appease my student loans and credit debt, adn have accepted that...and. perhaps am attempting to live off the grid..dumpstering and squatting and....meeting likeminded people to write about and draw and somehow give my life meaning again...make me feel like theres more to life than sitcoms and getting trashed because you don't know what else to do with your life, like virtually everyone here, in oswego, ny. i'm not sure what i'm doing yet, possibly gettign a greyhound discovery pass for a month and hopping friends couches. i think i'd like to stay in portland or the west coast for a while at least. its' about to get freezing here. idunno if anyone out there is up for traveling with a newcomer, but...
if nothing else, some advice, perhaps, or other resources would make me sleep a little easier right now.

thank any and all of you who respond greatly, thanks for listening,

paul jones jr

well i have been wandering for the better part of 7 years and it has lead me to my current location....vermont...i am going to be leaving in the next 3 weeks... just trying to gather enough money to live on for a few months until i find work again... then back on the road once more... i think i will head west for a bit.. it is warmer there this time of year... so sleeping outside is not a problem.....i most likely will travel by bus or train...hitching gets old after a bit...let me know....cheers mate

word, i got one of those bus passes youre talking about, i got a 2month pass and it was huge.. a lot of people dont like greyhound but i think its a good way to travel.. true the company is starting to suck more but that should only mean more hitchhikers.. but yeah the pass is a fun way to go around for a while. theres always a lot of places to go that youll still need your thumb for so surely itll be ok
