Walking Across Michigan

Postby KGB_Candle » August 18th, 2012, 10:37 pm

Hi. So I haven't been on this forum in a while, but the community here has been very inspiring and very helpful to me. I've posted about myself, about my dreams, and about my illness on this forum before here and the responses I received were very helpful.

Anyway, if you followed that topic or are curious about myself and what I've been up to, I have something to share; starting tomorrow, I'll be walking across the state of Michigan (I'm a native) to raise money for research into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, the disease that has made hitchhiking so difficult in the past. I plan on taking it very slow, at 3-5 miles a day. (I think in some ways, this walk is a way to improve my confidence in my own sense of mobility and my freedom in general).

CFS (often referred to as ME/CFS) is a poorly understood, and people often dismiss it, in no small part because of the name ("I get tired a lot too. Must not be much of anything serious."). It is not very well-known, despite the fact that about a million people in America have ME/CFS.

Please take a moment and visit my website here; you can watch a short video of me explaining things a bit further, and you can donate through that site or here.

I realize this is sort of self-promoting, and there are of course forum rules against spamming, but I hope this post doesn't fall into any un-allowed category.

I want to thank the Digihitch community just for existing - I feel like I've gotten to know some very interesting people, and they've helped me move forward in my life - and hope you can spare a moment to visit the site, share it with a friend, and if you feel so inclined, donate. Thanks!

Good luck Koerner!!

It's awesome that you're going for your dream despite the obstacles that you face. Too many people's dreams are clouded by their obstacles, not seeing the paths around them. That resigns them to an under-achieved life.

I think this journey will be the door to many great adventures for you. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and you'll remember that step for the rest of your life.
