THIS DAY IN ROAD HISTORY FEB 21

Postby CEEGE » February 21st, 2012, 1:02 pm

I see that this day has no cool road happening. I looked up on wikipedia, which always has a loooong list of important events that happened on days, and I found these. they all happened on the 21st of February, and seem somewhat relevant to Digihitch. So, hey, whoever is in charge of that, I hope you respond!

1804 – The first self-propelling steam locomotive makes its outing at the Pen-y-Darren Ironworks in Wales.

1878 – The first telephone book is issued in New Haven, Connecticut.

1848 – Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels publish The Communist Manifesto.

1937 - Initial flight of the first successful flying car, Waldo Waterman's Arrowbile.

1948 – NASCAR is incorporated.

1952 – The British government, under Winston Churchill, abolishes identity cards in the UK to "set the people free".

1958 – The Peace symbol, commissioned by Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in protest against the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment, is designed and completed by Gerald Holtom.

1965 – Malcolm X is assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City by members of the Nation of Islam.

1971 – The Convention on Psychotropic Substances is signed at Vienna.

1995 – Steve Fossett lands in Leader, Saskatchewan, Canada becoming the first person to make a solo flight across the Pacific Ocean in a balloon.

The site is running barebones in preparation for backup, server wipe, restore onto the current version of PhP. Almost all sections and features are "dormant" at this time. Only the Great Campfire Forums are being monitored on a daily basis.

Once the upgrade is complete, any info on any subject connected to Hitch-hiking, vagabonding, train hopping etc will be welcome and published pending approval by the editors.

Slan,

Fruupp
...and they lay down behind me
to sleep beside the road, till the morning has come,
where they know they will find me,
with my maps and my faith in the distance,
moving father on.
