Not enough mention of Tom Waits on this site.

I basically worship the ground that man walks on. So many good songs.

Coyotes van Don Edwards is a lovely song to listen to.
Heard it at the end of the movie Grizzly Man, and fell in love with it.

Another great song is Everett Ruess by Dave Alvin.

I think this song will resonate with a lot of you :- )

Eddie Vedder - Society

"Society... you're a crazy breed.
I hope that you're not lonely, without me.
Society, I hope you're not angry,
If I disagree."

"Some of the secret joys of living are not found by rushing from point A to point B, but by inventing some imaginary letters along the way"

One that I've always loved, especially out west, is "new kid in town" - eagles.
"Trust in God, live happily, and wander."

I have yet to get out there on the road and experience the sensation, the life you all have experienced. But, I think a few songs will stick in my head. well a few songs and an entire CD.

The Eagles - Hotel California
Lynard Skynard - Free Bird
Whiskey Myers - Firewater (entire CD) If you havent listened to them before then I'm going to have to say you must.

Wasn't Born To Follow - The Byrds. Just might be the greatest, happiest traveling song ever made.

As cliche as it may be, the "Into the Wild" soundtrack, as some have already posted, is EXCELLENT. I think that music made half the film.

I will have to compile some stuff. I find with a lot of music I listen to, I try to imagine how awesome it would be to listen to as I walked along the roads. Haha.
Not all those who wander are lost.

When I'm on the road, I don't have the chance to listen to music too often, so most of the time I save it for when I'm puzzled and need to reconnect with the world and flow with it. Besides some greek songs, what always comes to mind first is Lateralus by TOOL. When I can't listen to it, I just murmur it's lyrics, It helps me clear my mind, see things from another perspective that will actually help me appreciate the situation I'm in.

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
Lets me see.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
Drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
Lets me see there is so much more
And beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
Drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

I embrace my desire to
Feel the rhythm, to feel connected
Enough to step aside and weep like a widow
To feel inspired, to fathom the power,
To witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
To swing on the spiral
Of our divinity and still be a human.

With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
Between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

Spiral out. Keep going, going

Then it's Rulers, Ruling all things by Midlake

I have been cruel and kind without knowing
I fell in the silence overwhelmed by these days
For I have been shown dear rulers, ruling all things
Thinking the world was mine to lay hold on
I breathe in the promise of maiden and man
But each have their on illusions to hold onto

I only want to be left to my own ways
The rulers of one leaving all things undone
I stood in the awe of the whole creations
Gathered among them was the morning
Giving all its rays

Thinking the world was mine to be lost in
I ran with freedom and sank in between
For I have the path of wonder
There before me

I only want to be left to my own ways
The rulers of one leaving all things undone
I stood in the awe of the whole creation
Gathered among them was the morning
Giving all its rays

And lots of ambient sounds, especially Tim Hecker's Borderlands. This piece has a soothing effect on me. Every time I'm listening to it, all kinds of borders cease to exist, I just feel one with the whole universe.
