I'd recommend the latest Porcupine Tree album "In Absentia" too... i think it would make a great road album. There are so many elements and styles within it, lighter and heavier stuff, darker and brighter moments...
I couldn't recommend the live experience enough either, i was lucky enough to be in San Francisco this November when the Fillmore show happened.

80's metallica is good, black album was tolerable but not desierable, and everything since then is HORRIBLE.

80's Metallica should have ended there....as they did not stay with their heavy-metal personna too well in the 90's. I doubt they are ever going to make another album.

Why get hung up on a band whose music isn't good anymore? If they made some great albums which fueled your life back in the day then rock those and don't worry about the subsequent stuff. These days there are so many crappy imitation bands around that i'm just grateful that some of the fantastic music which came out years ago is even around. Not every band can maintain a consistently high level, many never even get there. I'm just glad that the underground can still produce cool shit which rocks my world among a mass of mediocrity.

I am probably one of the few who never got the metallica vibe, they are over rated in my opinion. I will never see the light on them, to me they are just corporate whores who sued a college kid who came up with a way to share music with his friends.

I find that with most people metallica is a either a love or hate relationship. I for one can be know to get down to some metallica every once in awhile when the moon is right.
