Vanning - RVs for the rest of us

Postby RoadPunk » March 21st, 2003, 2:59 am

Yah, I know the ' 70s are over, but I'm curious if anyone is into moving about the country in a van (or a group of them)? Customised or a beater, it's the closest thing I can think of to having an RV whatever that "recreational" is supposed to stand for... This stuff was a big deal 30 years ago - what happened? Other than the current price of fuel, it still makes as much sense as back in those days. Anyone still do this?

Prison has a strong tendency to put a damper on things. :(

Transportation by van

Postby Mamawolf » November 8th, 2003, 9:38 am

Vans are the only logical mode of transportation for me. Gas prices occasionally make it difficult especially with a 100 mile a day drive to work and back

But it is well worth it for the freedom of the extra space, especially considering we have 2 very large dogs that go most places with us. It is great to go camping in. We can pitch a tent or not :D. My husband and I both have vans and I never forsee us ever returning to using a car.

Vans

Postby lateral1 » August 28th, 2004, 9:57 pm

THE best way to tour New Zealand or Australia is is a van. Buy the van fully equiped for between $800US to $3000US and sell the van at the end of your trip. Vans are fully equiped with beds stoves utensils maps bbq's chairs. Stay in hostels whem you get bored of the van and the real beauty is stop where you fancy and then sleep, picnic or whatever. Weather is not a problem no wet tent ever. But you can tent whenever you want too. Side roads are easily taken too. Harder to do when hitching or traveling by bus. Next best way is to catch a ride with someone who has just bought a van.

We need this here in Canada and USA

It's still on my list of things to do, to tour Europe AND the States in a camper. Being able to pull over and fish for your dinner or just spend a day at a spot you like while seeing ALL the small towns that you miss via the highways. Only thing is, gas needs to stay cheap for it to be practical.

Definitely something I want to do.

to sleep beside the road, till the morning has come,
where they know they will find me,
with my maps and my faith in the distance,
moving father on.
